New works by Alejandro Vigilante will be on view at Shulman + Associates (S+A) in the Miami Design District from December 2 through December 7. The site-specific exhibition, entitled “e-DNA,” will represent the building blocks of the e-World, furthering Vigilante’s exploration of popular culture’s fascination with the internet. Art Basel Miami Beach also runs from December 4-7.
As in past exhibitions, iconic figures who never had email accounts in order to express themselves through Internet-based communications will be texting, emailing and IM’ing their way through their relationships—the good, the bad; the pretty and the ugly. Film stars, rock stars, “starchitects” and mere mortals will all express witty articulations that are at times funny, at times poignant and at times a tad on the dark side, but always entertaining.
Located at 100 NE 38th Street, Space 2—across the street from the new Design Miami/ 2008 location, Shulman + Associates’ building will come to life as (OMG) Marilyn’s dress flutters skyward or Rock Hudson dares anyone to stop him from coming out (WTF!). Famed modernist heavyweights Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright will weigh in from three large-scale installations. “I’m excited to be staging an exhibition with S+A,” says Vigilante. “As architects, they create art with the building blocks of the constructed world, so I see the choice of their building as layered with meaning.”
The exhibition will kick off with an opening celebration from 5 to 10pm on December 2nd and the exhibition will remain on view through December 7 at 6pm.
