Say what you will about the party animals that submit postings in this blog, but they sure do know a good time when they see one coming. Now, they apparently have their sights set on Miami Beach Cinematheque’s unveiling / 2011 Oscar celebration at (of all places) City Hall in South Beach.
Miami Beach’s very own art house cinema, Miami Beach Cinematheque, has been selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as one of the official nationwide celebrations of the 2011 Oscars.
On the same night, February 27, 2011, Miami Beach Cinematheque will be unveiling its new theater at Miami Beach City Hall, located at 1130 Washington Avenue. This will be their very first showing since the film society’s move from Española Way to City Hall.
The cocktail party will include “organic” Italian hors d’oeuvres from Escopazzo restaurant (one of our favorites), cocktails courtsey of Bombay Sapphire and Sofia Blanc d’ Blancs and Director’s Cut Chardonnay from Coppola Wines (as in “Francis Ford Coppola”).
There’s much more in store, including a photographic art exhibition from Frank Worth who was lucky enough to photograph some true Hollywood stars such as James Dean, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe, so we recommend taking a glance at the full press release here…
Worth amassed an intimate pictorial history of Hollywood in the boxes strewn about his cramped apartment in West Hollywood and that’s where they remained, almost unseen by the public, until he died at age 77 in 2000, close to penniless.
If you do attend, be sure to look up our friend and former Versace model, Dana Keith, who now runs Miami Beach Cinematheque, and see if you can stump him with a movie trivia question. (Our money is on Dana…)
