The American Automobile Scene

August 1, 2008 by Group

Coming up at the Wolfsonian in Miami Beach is a very cool exhibit on Auto design in America. You have to love those streamlined designs that came out of the 1920s…

The American Automobile Scene is an engaging exploration of automobile design in America from the 1920s through the 1940s. The art exhibition analyzes the function of the auto in defining modern, American culture introduces elegantly depicted artworks for concept and production

autos; sculptured auto models; illustrations for motorcar showrooms, petrol stations, bridges, and roadways; and illustrations for automobile advertising.

These master artworks, in concert with advertising pamphlets, automobile industry periodicals, and other published ephemera provide viewers with the opportunity to view how designers and manufacturers influenced consumer perceptions.

They additionally communicate the societal, political, and economic context of this explosive period of time defined by the Roaring Twenties and the Depression through World War II.

The exhibit runs at the Wolfsonian from October 24, 2008 to May 17, 2009.
