The event listings for Basel are coming in hot and heavy these days, and here are two for your consideration…
Willard Wigan – The enchanting world of Willard Wigan makes its debut in Miami for Art Basel with 58 pieces–most formed in the eye of a needle, visible only by high-powered microscopes in custom cases. Highly anticipated pieces include Little Miss Muffet, Cameron Diaz, Mega Yacht “Hope” and the first showing of Cupid—arguably the smallest piece of art ever created measuring 385.77 micron (equal to one millionth of a meter). Prices range from $25,000 to over $100,000. Wigan’s internationally acclaimed work will be unveiled at his inaugural exhibition in Miami and opening of his own gallery in Midtown Miami on November 12. Alonzo Mourning acts as “celebrity curator” for an invitation-only opening night in celebration of Wigan’s downsizing of “The Three Kings” (Miami Heat’s Big 3), along with Heat dancers, mascot and special appearances by Heat players.
SCOPE Miami Art Show – The art show that has established its name by curating cutting-edge contemporary art from around the world proudly returns to Miami for its tenth year. Cementing its future with an 80,000 square foot pavilion across the street from Art Miami, SCOPE Miami’s high-profile venue is centrally located in the heart of the Wynwood Gallery Arts District. Running concurrently with Art Basel Miami, the SCOPE Miami fair opens to press and VIPs on Tuesday, November 30 with the FirstView benefit. This year’s Miami edition of the fair, November 30 – December 5, 2010, will present 85 international galleries upholding SCOPE’s unique tradition of solo and thematic group shows presented alongside museum-quality programming, collector tours, screenings, and special events.
